It is literally impossible to be a social media manager.
It is literally impossible to be a social media manager.
Like, we have to always be monitoring, but someone else always finds something you missed.
You have to be young, but not too inexperienced.
And you can never say you want to be driving engagement. You have to say you want to be driving sales, but also you have to be growing the accounts.
You have to have experience in every channel, but you can’t be a jack of all trades, master of none.
You have to be an excellent copywriter, designer, videographer, editor, strategist, project manager and creative director.
You have to be the face and voice of the brand, but you can’t be paid like it.
You’re supposed to love being a social media manager, but don’t talk about how stressful the job is.
You have to be insanely creative, but also always be data-driven.
You have to answer for trolls and mean comments, but if you point that out, you’re complaining.
You’re supposed to stay on top of trends, but also stop being on your phone so much.
But always create content that stands out and always be grateful for your job.
But never forget that the social algorithms are rigged.
So find a way to acknowledge that, but also always be following best practices.
You have to never get old, never be late to a trend, never miss a comment, never take a break, never make a typo, never forget to run it past legal, never be too bold, never miss a deadline.
It’s too hard! It’s too contradictory and nobody gives you a medal or says thank you!
And it turns out in fact that not only are you doing everything wrong, but also everything is your fault.
